Comprehensive health care for women encompassing routine,
preventive care, and the treatment of disease.
Treating women from adolescence through menopause, and beyond.
We provide prenatal care, management of the labor and delivery process, and postpartum follow-up care. For most women pregnancy is
routine and uncomplicated. For some women, due to prior medical conditions, family history, age, or obstetrical reasons the pregnancy may be considered high risk. We encourage women to come in prior to pregnancy for risk assessment and counseling regarding optimizing pregnancy outcome. We provide genetic counseling and when indicated amniocentesis for diagnosis. We commonly treat high blood pressure and diabetes in pregnancy. We have in office ultrasound evaluation and fetal monitoring with
nonstress testing for high risk pregnancies, including multiple gestations.
We provide annual screening and health maintenance examinations with an emphasis on preventative care. This is specific for women at different stages of their lives. For many women the ability to time a pregnancy is very important. We counsel women on both trying to achieve a pregnancy as well as prevent a pregnancy. We offer all forms of contraception. The Pap smear is a critical component to a pelvic exam. We offer complete evaluation of the abnormal Pap Smear including colposcopy, cryotherapy, LEEP, and cone biopsies. Menstrual disorders are a common complaint among women. We provide treatment for all forms of menstrual complaints, whether it is absent periods, heavy periods or painful periods. When a specific disease is diagnosed, we present a woman with all her options-medical and surgical, conservative and aggressive. Together with the patient, we decide on the most appropriate treatment for her.
The menopause is a time of transition. For some women this can be an easy change. For others there can be great difficulty. As a woman’s ovaries stop producing hormones this can lead to changes in many body systems and the development of new problems. We are experienced in addressing these new concerns. We are able to evaluate and treat heavy periods, often times with simple office procedures such as a biopsy or sonohysterogram. We address the concerns many women have but don’t talk about such as sexual functioning or urinary incontinence. We continue with
preventive care at this time also. The emphasis is now on screening for specific diseases that increase with age such as breast cancer and osteoporosis. We provide mammograghy in the office.
We also have state-of-the-art screening for osteoporosis. Whether or not to initiate hormone therapy is something that is discussed with each patient based on her specific situation. Together with her we come to a decision.
When a couple has difficulty achieving pregnancy after one year, that is termed infertility. There are many reasons why this may occur. There can be factors related to the woman, the man or both. Based on the couple’s history an individualized diagnostic and treatment plan is developed.
Gynecologic surgery is an integral part of our practice. We are trained and skilled in all forms. Minimally invasive techniques of laparoscopy and hysteroscopy have enabled women to return to normal activity within a day or two. We are able to treat endometriosis, pelvic masses and uterine fibroids with these techniques preserving the pelvic organs. Traditional abdominal and vaginal surgery still has its role for some patients. After a complete evaluation we would offer a recommendation for the most appropriate technique.
